The Silver Sisters are Tina Bettison and June Rowlands. Together they have more years of publishing experience than they care to admit to. They created this fabulous (and possibly iconic) magazine for local women in Nottinghamshire and published five issues before deciding that their other interests really had to take priority.
June has worked on local and regional newspapers as a journalist and editor. She was PR and events manager for a number of years at Newark and Sherwood District Council and latterly a freelance writer and PR for local businesses in and around Newark and Lincoln. She is PR supremo for Suggy’s Gym/Newark Martial Arts in Newark and their world champion fighters.
June is on the management team of the new Radio Newark as well as presenting the Girls Around Town show with Tina and their friend Sue Jackson on a Saturday morning. The Girls Around Town website is www.girlabouttown1.com and we’re on Facebook too. You can also follow June on twitter @juner10.
Tina was production director and publisher for one of the poineer contract publishers in the 1990s before going freelance and venturing into books. Tina has published magazines for companies as diverse as The Midland Bank (now HSBC – so that shows her age!) and Tesco to Asprey and Garrards. As an author she has six books published (three with Hodder and Stoughton, one with Marshall Cavendish and two self-published). Tina writes on personal and spiritual development, creativity, nature and humour on own website www.tinabettison.com. You can follow her on Facebook and on twitter @tinabettison.
As well as writing and broadcasting Tina mentors women entrepreneurs and authors in finding their speaking voice and professional presence on stage, on screen or on radio. Help and guidance on finding your voice, telling your story and projecting your best self to an audience is on her sister website www.yourvoiceyourstory.com. Tina and hubby Paul are also hatching a plan to move to Wales and set up a retreat centre for writers, artists, musicians and entrepreneurs.
Why Silver Sisters? Because both June and Tina are silver haired and proud of it! They are living proof that life begins after 45, and silver haired ladies are by no means letting themselves go and heading to an invisible retirement! In fact – quite the opposite as the above clearly shows!
